On Wednesday, May 16th, patrolman Richard Gaylord stopped a 2000 Chrysler on Locust Street for a traffic offense. A review of the vehicle’s license plate revealed that the owner had several outstanding warrants. During the roadside investigation, the odor of suspected marijuana was detected coming from within the vehicle.
According to police reports, the driver, Valentin D. Teixeira, of Elizabeth, admitted smoking marijuana in the vehicle earlier in the day. The passenger identified herself as Shante Sessoms but did not possess any form of identification. Patrolman Gaylord soon identified the passenger as the vehicle’s owner, Tangenay L. Sessoms, also of Elizabeth. Sessoms was then arrested on an outstanding Union Township warrant for $3,500.
A search of the vehicle revealed two suspected marijuana cigarettes and paraphernalia. Valentin was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was released pending an appearance in Roselle Park Municipal Court. Sessoms was released into custody of Union Township Police.
