On September 3, 2010 at 3:29 p.m. while on patrol in the area of W. Colfax and Locust Street, Patrolman Joshua Medrano observed a tan Ford eastbound on Colfax Ave traveling at a high rate of speed at approximately 40 MPH in a posted 25 MPH zone. A motor vehicle stop of the Ford driven by Carlos Rodrigues of Elizabeth resulted in the discovery of a small black metal tube containing one pill of Alprazolam and a very large machete which was retrieved from the rear floorboard between the driver and passenger side seat.
Rodrigues was arrested and charged with 2C:35-10(a)1 – ( possession Of Schedule I, II, III, IV drug) and 2C:39-5D (possession of a weapon). He was released pending a Superior Court date of September 15, 2010. He was also given a motor vehicle summons for violation of 39:3-40 (suspended driver) and 39:4-49.1-(possession of CDS in a motor vehicle) .
