Local Photographer Holds Reception

‘Evolving Images 2005 – 2011’, a solo exhibit of digital photographs by Roselle Park resident Joy Panzarino will be on display at the Casano Community Center Gallery through June 24, 2011. A reception to meet the artist will be held on Wednesday May 25, 2011  from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Fifteen photographs from the photographer’s collection will be on display depicting colorful subjects ranging from day lilies to Warinanco Park. Ms. Panzarino became interested in photography when her mother gave her a 35 mm three-dimensional stereoscopic camera as a high school graduation gift. What she learned from that camera was how to frame a shot and consider incorporating depth into the pictures.

Panzarino’s mother was her early inspiration and first art teacher. She was a talented artist and taught her how to paint ceramics, make signs, create three dimensional and flower displays. In high school there was no room in college prep courses for art classes, so Panzarino attended art club at 7:30 AM two days a week. There she learned oil painting, sculpture, collage, and other art forms. When Panzarino retired from professional nursing, she took courses in sketching, watercolor painting and photography at Union County College.

This December, Panzarino was awarded first prize for two of her entries in the Winter in Roselle Park – Share the Magic photography contest. For two years in a row her photography has won honorable mention in the Union County Senior Art Show. As a member of the Sullivan County Art Association, Panzarino exhibited in the 2005 Riverfest in Narrowsburg, NY.

As an artist, Panzarino is expanding into another area, “I’ve begun making cards with my photos, and have shared my hobby with the residents of a nursing home in Bayville, and have also enjoyed sending many of them to my family and friends.”

She teaches third grade CCD, and repairs and paint statues as another hobby. I love music, and to read and garden and keep fish.
