The Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library (RPVML) Board of Trustees has voted to move meetings back to a 7 p.m. start.
After four months of trying to start meetings at 6:45 p.m., some board members requested to move it back to its original start time. At the April 18th library board meeting, the board started at around 6:51 p.m. due to the late arrival of council liaison Joseph DeIorio.
During the New Business section of the meeting, board member Jeff Regan initially asked if the board could reconsider the 7 p.m. start stating that although he did arrive on time, it was hard getting to the meeting on time.
Member Kimberly Powers asked why was the meeting time moved.
President Dexter Delacruz stated, “It was a discussion that the board had. We tended to have some long meetings such as today and . . . there was a board member who actually traveled fairly far who didn’t live in town, more specifically the liaison to the superintendent. Fifteen minutes for long nights helped. It was voted on as a board.”
Member Rashmi Sheth who also arrived on time stated that she travels from New York City and that she would come right to meetings sometimes right after stepping off the train.
After some discussion which included President Delacruz stating that the new meeting times would need to be republished for the remainder of the year at a cost, the board unanimously decided to return to the 7 p.m. start time.
Starting with Wednesday, May 16th, the Library Board of Trustees meeting will have a 7 p.m. start time.
Library board meetings are usually held 10 times a year on the third Wednesday of every month except July and August.
