The governing body awarded the contract for the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library ADA accessible entrance ramp at the October 5th municipal meeting. The contract was awarded to Berto Construction, Inc. out of Rahway for $45,576.
Renovations to the library grounds two years ago which included benches, military plaques, and refurbished lawn required that the ramp be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rules. Engraved benches were paid for by donations. Although the ramp was to regulation at the time it was originally constructed, changes to a commercial – or almost all – public property requires that it be brought up to code with current ADA standards.
The project is scheduled to start after the general election on November 7th so as to prevent any issues with access to polling booths. The library is an election polling place.
