John F. Kennedy, the Democratic candidate for the 2nd ward, has officially dropped out of this November’s general election. This morning the Union County Clerk’s Office received his official request, which was dated August 4th, to have his name removed from the ballot. The County Clerk’s office did not receive any notice of a replacement candidate.
“I just really didn’t have the passion to run for the office, “Mr. Kennedy stated when reached for comment, “I think if somebody’s going to be a councilperson, they need to have that and I just never really got to that.”
The Roselle Park Democratic Committee has until September 15, 2011 to fill the vacancy for the special election. If no replacement is named then Marc Caswell, the current 2nd ward council representative, will run unopposed to finish the unexpired term that was created when Joseph Accardi was elected Mayor of Roselle Park in 2010. Mr. Caswell will have to run again in 2012 when the 2nd ward council term expires.
