On Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at approximately 6:18 p.m., Roselle Park Police responded to the 100 block of Jerome Street on a report of a burglary to a 1st floor apartment. The victim stated she returned home at approximately 6 p.m. and observed that her apartment was ransacked. A search by police yielded negative results for a suspect. The victim stated she left the apartment at approximately 10 a.m.
A canvass of the building resulted in a neighbor recalling that he heard a doorbell being rung between the hours of 2 pm and 4 pm. When he looked out his window he observed a black male, early 30’s, 5’9″ – 5’10”, with short hair, clean shaven, wearing a dark colored sweatshirt standing on the porch near the front door to the building. The neighbor also observed a white “sprinter” style van in front of the building occupied by a white female driver.
Additionally, he stated that he has seen a burgundy colored PT Cruiser parking in a reserved spot. It was occupied by a black male and black female at least twice in the past week. The neighbor states he knew who the parking spot belongs to and it did not belong to the PT Cruiser.
Another neighbor recalled seeing the same PT Cruiser parked on March 16, 2011 between the hours of 2 pm – 4 pm. They stated that the vehicle was occupied by a black female in the passenger seat but there was no driver in the vehicle.
Detective Hussam Assad is investigating the case. Anyone observing suspicious activity is encouraged to call the Roselle Park Police at (908) 245-2300 or 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.
