Interview Requests Sent To Municipal Candidates

As has been the custom, formal invitations were sent today to all seven (7) municipal candidates for a one-on-one conversation to discuss their platforms and candidacy. All but one had their invitations personally delivered; one had his invitation sent through the mail due to unavailability.

This year three men are running to represent Roselle Park as the head of the borough. Mayor Carl Hokanson is running for re-election as a registered Independent. Current Third Ward Councilman William Fahoury is running for mayor as a Republican candidate and 30-year-old Joseph Signorello III is the Democratic candidate for mayor.

Second Ward Councilman Joseph Petrosky is running for re-election for the Democratic party against former Roselle Park Department of Public Works (DPW) assistant superintendent Richard Graves who is the Republican candidate.

The fifth ward will have its current councilman Thomas ‘Thos’ Shipley run to retain his seat against Democratic candidate Robert Mathieu.

Each of the seven men has been asked to respond personally as it is the newspaper’s policy to not discuss such matters with campaign managers, political committee members, or anyone other than the candidate. Council seats are for three years and the mayor is a four-year term.

One candidate has already agreed to a date for a conversation.

This year there is only one person running for three seats on the Board Of Education.

Residents can also submit any question to ask the candidates by using the submission form below. The deadline for reader questions is 2359H on Friday, August 31st.
