A hand-written unsigned notice on the fence for the Roselle Park High School/Herm Shaw Field this past Saturday afternoon read that the fields would be closed for 48 hours. In addition to that, information sheets on two chemicals – Allectus and 4-SPEED Selective Herbicide – were also posted on the fence. A white flag on West Colfax Avenue at the east end of the athletic field was also present with the name of a company called Royal Turf out of Stirling, NJ.
According to Sue Guercio, the Business Administrator for the Roselle Park Board Of Education (BOE), the spraying of the field was done on Saturday afternoon and was done on an ‘as needed’ basis and not in preparation of Nation Night Out activities tonight which will include fireworks at 9:15 p.m.
