Giving Thanks

I went to my favorite on-line search engine to look for images on Thanksgiving. And what did I find? You guessed it – turkey after turkey after turkey. Come on! We all know that the holiday is more than some bird that runs around gobbling at the top of its lungs and ends up on our dinner plate.

Now, whether or not you are a religious person, the Christian tradition has what is called The Lord’s Prayer. In it there is the exhortation to thank God for “our daily bread.” In other words, we thank God for the food we eat. Don’t buy this? Maybe you say, “Hey, I worked for that bread. I don’t need to thank anybody but myself!” Okay, fair enough. Do an exercise with me. Don’t worry it’s EASY! Slowly take a deep breath. As you are drawing in the oxygen, ask yourself this question: “What did I do to deserve this?” Now you’re gettin’ it.

You may be one of those people who believe we come from monkeys. Actually, much of the world probably thinks this. If you fall under this category, then what I write here you will likely write-off. That’s okay. But for those of you who believe something else, give thanks for your daily bread AND your every breath.

Now, THAT’s Thanksgiving!!!
