A final tabulation of votes for the November 2011 General Election for three (3) seats did not change the winners but provides more information on the percentage change for each race.
On election night, the 1st ward council seat was won by Andrew Casais by only four (4) votes. The final tallying of absentee ballots widened the margin twofold to have Mr. Casais winning by eight (8) votes. He received 216 while the current, and recently appointed, councilman Eugene Meola received 208.
Marc Caswell, with no official opponent to run against, had all but five (5) people vote for him. Write-in votes for ‘Paul Irslander’, Joseph Petrosky, Glenn Marczweski, Michael Peterson, and Andrew Casais (who was not even eligible to run in Mr. Caswell’s ward) prevented the sitting 2nd ward councilman from receiving 100% of the votes.
The race for Council-At-Large had a decrease in the number of votes for Glen Costello by 30 to have him receive 535 votes to Council-At-Large Hokanson’s 1,122. One write-in vote for ‘Jake Mageria’ was cast in that race.
“I would like to thank all the people who came out to vote for me, “Councilman-At-Large Hokanson said on election night, “I will continue my open-door policy to be available and continue to be accountable, accessible, and hard-working as I have been in the past. There will be hard decisions to make and I will work with the rest of council as always.”
Eugene Meola also offered some words, “The election was an experience – an eye opener. I didn’t know how elections worked until I became involved. I appreciate the people who came out to vote. Thank you.”
Andrew Casais stated shortly after the election, “A big thank you to the people of the First Ward. I look forward to working with you and for you as your next Councilman.”
