Frank Orlando Recognized For 50 Years Of Business In Roselle Park

At the May 18th Mayor & Council meeting, the governing body recognized Frank Orlando for being in business for half a century in Roselle Park.

Frank, who was raised and lived in Roselle Park the first third of his life, was Class of ’55 from Roselle Park High School. On May 15, 1967, he opened Orlando’s Shalimar Beauty Salon in town. During the mid-80s, he extended his business to Orlando’s Boutique. In 1999, Frank opened Orlando’s Travel while still maintaining Orlando’s Hair Design. Both are currently at 305 West Westfield Avenue.

Fifth Ward Councilman Thomas ‘Thos’ Shipley, who presented the Certificate of Recognition to Frank, stated, “Generations of families in and around Roselle Park have been valued customers of Frank’s since he opened his doors in ’67.”

Frank is a member of the Coiffures Guild of New Jersey and has been recognized numerous times for his charity work from various organizations including the Knights of Columbus and Union County Board of Freeholders. Three members of his family – father Frank Orlando, Sr., uncle Tony Orlando, Sr., and cousin Tony Orlando, Jr. – are all inductees into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame.

Frank is an avid musician who, along with Joe Signorello Sr., formed The Rockets. Under the stage name Frank Arlo, The Rockets included members Gary Keller and Joe LaBracio who later went on to join The Four Seasons as their bassist.

Currently, while still working five to six days a week, Frank enjoys travel, golfing, and is an avid cook.

After receiving the recognition, Frank said to those in attendance before being joined by his family, “Thank you very much. I appreciate the honor.”
