Female Jogger Assaulted On Westfield Avenue

On October 22, 2011 at approximately 6:06 a.m., Patrolman Richard Gaylord responded to the 500 block of East Grant Avenue on a report of an assault. Upon arrival he spoke to the victim, a 41 year old female who stated she was attacked on East Westfield Avenue between Dalton Street and Camden Street.

The victim stated that she was jogging at approximately 5:45 a.m. on the north side of East Westfield Avenue when she observed another person – identified as a black male, 6 foot tall with a stocky build, wearing dark navy blue zip up jacket with hood, dark brown knit ski cap and dark pants – approaching her walking eastbound. As she came within a couple feet of the male she said to him, “Good morning.”

As she was side by side with the male, he grabbed around the neck area with his arm and began to punch her. The victim then bit the male’s hand.

She was then thrown to the ground and landed on her side. As the male threw her to the ground he said to her, “Leave me alone.”

The victim got up and observed the male walk eastbound toward Dalton Street. The victim ran northbound on Camden Street then eastbound on East Grant Avenue to her residence.

According to the victim, the male did not make any demand for money or possessions and did not make any attempts to sexually assault her.

The victim suffered a laceration to her left side of her eye. A check of the area was negative for any suspects. A county alarm was activated to alert surrounding agencies. Police are investigating this incident and reviewing security cameras in the area of the assault.
