Father Arrested For Aggravated Assault On His Way To Bail Out Daughter

On Tuesday, July 17th, at approximately 9:14 p.m., Lisa Tanganelli, age 26 of Elizabeth, was arrested by Patrolman Alexander Lanza for a warrant during a traffic stop. Ms. Tanganelli had an outstanding traffic warrant from the Elizabeth Municipal Court for $100. While in custody she contacted her father, Silvano Tanganelli, 66 of Roselle.

While en route to the Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD), Silvano got into a heated dispute with a pedestrian on Westfield Avenue. According to police reports, Silvano stopped his vehicle to allow the pedestrian to cross the street and they started arguing. Silvano abruptly parked at the curb and jumped from his vehicle and struck the victim in the head with a golf club. They wrestled each other to the ground and Silvano struck the victim a second time before fleeing.

Police were called to the scene and found the victim on the sidewalk. A witness provided police with a license plate number of the suspects vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, Sergeant David Pitts located Silvano Tanganelli standing at the window in the police station lobby trying to bail out his daughter. He was arrested and taken into custody. The victim, a 53-year-old Roselle Park resident, suffered minor abrasions to his face and head. He refused medical attention at the scene.

Silvano Tanganelli was charged with Aggravated Assault with a weapon and Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Bail was set at $5,000.

Both he and his daughter, Lisa, posted bail earlier this morning and were released from custody.
