On September 7, 2012, Roselle Park Police responded to 5 West Westfield Avenue for a report of a suspicious person. The store owner reported that two (2) individuals tried selling gold jewelry that appeared to be fake. Lieutenant Manuel Jimenez responded to assist the responding officers and located the two (2) suspects, a Hispanic male and a Hispanic female who appeared to be pregnant, on video surveillance of a nearby business.
A description was broadcast and a short while later, the suspects were located on East 2nd Avenue in Roselle. The male Oscar M. Hernandez, 21 of Elizabeth, provided police with a false name. He was arrested and charged with Hindering Apprehension. The female was released at the scene. Hernandez was released after posting bail.
