Current First Ward Councilman Eugene Meola and Patricia Jordan – who ran against Mr. Meola in 2014 – have both been charged with three (3) counts of failing to file required campaign contribution reports for the 2014 Primary Election. They are the seventh and eighth candidates since 2002 who have had such complaints filed against them. Both individuals were charged in April of this year.
First Ward Councilman Eugene Meola stated that he submitted his required forms to the Roselle Park Democratic Committee (RPDC) who told him that his and Councilwoman-At-large Charlene Storey’s forms were sent together to the state.
A final decision has yet to be rendered by the commission.
Additionally, former Fourth Ward Councilman Modesto ‘Mo’ Miranda paid a penalty of $275 to the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (NJ ELEC) for failing to file his 2013 primary election campaign reports in a timely fashion.
Even though Mr. Miranda spent no funds on his primary election and later withdrew his name from the general election, the state required him to file an A-1 form for his campaign. NJ ELEC documents show that Mr. Miranda filed his report 759 days late on June 4, 2015.
