Driver Charged With Possession Of Taser

On January 6, 2011, at about 2:38 p.m., while on patrol on West Westfield Avenue and Valley Road, patrolman Kevin Florczak observed a Honda traveling eastbound on West Westfield Avenue with the driver not wearing a seatbelt in violation of 39:3-76.2F. A motor vehicle stop resulted in the discovery of a partially smoked hand-rolled cigarette containing suspected CDS marijuana; (9) Oxycodone pills; (23) pills identified as Trazodone; and a black taser which was secured in a holster.

The driver, Jeffrey T. Alston, 32, of Irvington, was placed under arrest and charged with 2C:35-10.5(b)(2), 2C:35-10(a)(1),2C:35-10(a)(4)(CDS charges); 2C:39-5D (unlawful possession of a weapon); 39:3-76.2Ff, 39:3-75 and 39:4-49.1 (possession of CDS in MV). Alston was released pending a Superior Court hearing on January 14, 2011.
