Donors Honored At RPYBL Event

Between the visit from Santa and the pancake breakfast at the Roselle Park High School on Saturday, December 10th, members of  the governing body and of the Roselle Park Youth Baseball League met across the street at the remediated ball fields to conduct the last ceremonial duties of the outgoing mayor, Joseph DeIorio. Additionally, Noula Chatzopoulos, Katie Chatzopoulos, and Nick Voulounamos were in attendance for the George C. Fund; which donated to the contribution of costs for improvements to the field. Katie’s brother George Chatzupoulos passed away in a surfing accident in 2009. They grew up in Roselle Park and their mother, Noula, still lives in town, according to Katie.

“We heard about the fact that there was need for the baseball field for the little league and we thought it would be a great weay to keep his name alive in the town that he grew up in and to give back to the community,” Katie said after being honored, along with her mother and Nick, by the outgoing mayor.

The amount donated has not been publicly specified yet and there will be another, more formal ceremony in the spring of 2011 but for now Katie was touched by how her brother and his name will continue to be a part of Roselle Park, “We’re grateful to be here today to participate in this and keep his name alive.”
