“Digital Gems”, a solo exhibit of photographs of unique jewelry by Roselle Park resident Leona M Seufert, will be on display through December 21, 2012. There will be a reception to meet the artist on Wednesday, November 28th, from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Leona M Seufert is a digital artist who has created a new collection of handmade jewelry of necklaces, pins, and pendants. She finds inspiration for her line of jewelry in the digital photo montages she has created over the last seven years. “I have created digital art by experimenting with the unlimited possibilities of Photoshop in order to realize my artistic dreams. Using what I have learned about creating in the digital world, I decided to return to my first love, jewelry.”
Taking digital art to a new level, she uses altered photographs to create colorful images for this line of jewelry. Called “Digital Gems” because each piece has, at its center, a small segment of a photograph printed out in color on an inkjet printer. These statement pieces are surrounded by beads, gilt, and other “found” objects.
Seufert states, “My jewelry is a way for me, as an artist, to get ‘personal’ with you, a way to provide you with portable art. These small works of art are items you can wear close to your body, chosen for their unique statement, an object that enhances the vibes of your personality! They are designed to be worn by a woman who is not afraid of attracting attention. She knows that everyone is looking at her when she walks into a room. That is my mission in creating these pieces: I want you to wear my jewelry because it is as interesting and complex as you are.”
Seufert also teaches craft workshops and will be presenting one revealing her digital gem techniques at the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library in December. She has exhibited her digital photo montages throughout the metropolitan area. Her jewelry has appeared in stores and exhibits in upstate New York and at craft fairs in St. Lawrence County, NY. Seufert has her studio in Roselle Park. You can view her art on her online gallery (link).
