The deadline for filing as a Democratic or Republican candidate for municipal office is 4 p.m. on Monday, April 3rd.
The two seats up for election this year are First Ward and Council-At-Large. The current elected officials are First Ward Councilman Eugene Meola and Councilwoman-At-Large Charlene Storey.
In Roselle Park, the primary election usually runs unopposed. Even so, any resident who is a registered Democrat or Republican and fulfills other legal requirements can run for office, even without the backing of a local political party; that candidate just needs to receive the most votes during the primary.
Anyone interested in filing as a political party candidate can contact the Borough Clerk’s office for a petition at (908) 245-6222.
The deadline to file as an Independent or any other political party (i.e. Libertarian) candidate is June 6th which is also the date of the Primary Election.
Election day is Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
