On July 26, 2011, Detective Keith Wintermute filed charges against a 13-year-old male juvenile from Roselle for two (2) burglaries of the Family Dollar store on Westfield Avenue in Roselle Park. The juvenile was charged with 2C:18-2 (burglary), 2C:17-3 (criminal mischief) for the first burglary when he left empty-handed on July 19, 2011, and 2C:18-2 (burglary), 2C:17-3 (criminal mischief) and 2C:20-3 (theft) for the second burglary where an undetermined amount of candy was taken on July 20, 2011.
He and his parents were additionally charged with violating the Roselle Park curfew ordinance. The burglaries occurred at 1:34 a.m. on July 19, 2011 and 3:25 a.m. on July 20, 2011. He was apprehended at 3:14 a.m. on July 24, 2011.
The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents pending a Union County Family Court hearing.
