Bylaws Changed To Formalize Council Action

The governing body formalized a standing practice of submitting agenda items – along with serving on committees – during the November 16th Mayor & Council meeting. Resolution 306-17 added two sections: one under Article I (Meetings) and Article IV (Committees).

The first change is a hard deadline for submitting agenda items to the borough clerk’s office by 4:30 p.m. on Monday when a municipal meeting takes place. The two exemptions are for matters and items which affect the health, safety, and welfare of the public-at-large; and matters affecting the financial operation of Borough.

Currently, a practice of submitting by Mondays on weeks when there is a municipal meeting is in place but now the clerk will be able to not have an item placed on the agenda until the next meeting if it is not submitted on time.

The second amendment – under Article IV, Section 2 – will require each member of council to serve as a member of, at least, one standing committee.

These changes will be in place by the December 7th municipal meeting.
