Burglaries Reported On Charles St & E. Westfield Ave.

On Thursday February 16, 2012, Patrolman Mitchell White responded to an apartment dwelling at 7 Charles Street for a reported attempted burglary.

The resident reported that someone rang her doorbell and turned her door handle. The victim stated he announced that he was the ‘super’. When the resident responded that she did not call or need him, the suspect ran down the steps and out of view. The victim then called the police.

Multiple police units responded but were unable to locate the suspect. Several witnesses were interviewed but none were able to provide police with a description.

While conducting a canvass of the building, officer White located an apartment with an unlocked door with fresh damage to the frame. Upon further investigation, it was determined that this apartment had been burglarized. The resident, who had been at work, returned home and reported that nothing was missing from his apartment. Detective Hussam Assad responded and is investigating.

A few minutes later, Roselle Park Police responded to a report of a woman calling for help at 336 East Westfield Avenue. Upon arrival it was determined that the woman wanted to report a burglary and theft to her apartment.

The victim reported that she only left her apartment unattended for a few hours. When she returned home, she noticed damage to the door frame and then found her apartment ransacked. The victim reported a computer as well as jewelry stolen. Detective Assad responded and is investigating.
