The 2013-14 Roselle Park School District (RPSD) Budget Workshop has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 20th at 7 p.m. at Sherman School. The original ‘PTA Summit’ concept of having all PTA in attendance to participation will not be part of the evening’s schedule.
Board Of Education (BOE) member Donald Chin, the chair of Finance committee, stated that the BOE will be presenting the estimated expenditures and revenues for the 2013-2014 school year as well as discussing options for the budget in the event that state aid – to be announced in the Governor’s February 26 address – is less than in previous years.
In the event state aid remains on target, Mr. Chin stated, “We would also like to hear opinions as to programs, materials, and/or positions that could possibly be restored if funds were to be available.”
In line with the agreement made by school districts if they decided to move their elections from April to November – which BOE voted to do starting last year – there will be no vote by the general public on a school budget unless a proposed budget is above the 2 percent cap. Even in such an event, the public vote only be allowed to vote on the amount over the 2%, not the entire budget.
