Brother Of Assault Victim Arrested At Sunrise Village

On June 12, 2011, Roselle Park police officers responded to the area of the Sunrise Village apartments parking lot on Jerome Street on a report of a suspicious male. The complainant reported that there was a male in the parking lot who was tapping on cars and looking into them. In addition, she said that he was looking into basement apartment windows. She described the male as being in his 20s with facial hair, approximately 5′ 7″ tall, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and dark sneakers. She stated that when she called, he was sitting on the steps of the 141 Jerome Street building.

Sgt. Dominkc Frino located a subject who matched the description in the driveway of the 529 West Westfield building of Sunrise Village which leads directly to 141 Jerome Street. While checking the subject, identified as Nelson Delgado, age 20 of Woodside, New York, Sgt. Frino discovered a silver retractable box cutter in his right pants pocket. Sgt. Frino also discovered a hammer tucked into and concealed in the arm of the blue hooded sweatshirt that he was wearing. When questioned as to why he was in the parking lot, Delgado could not provide any answer other than that he was just walking around. Mr. Delgado was then placed under arrest for possession of burglary tools and unlawful possession of weapons.

Sgt. Frino then contacted Mr. Delgado’s father who informed the sergeant that on June 11, 2011 at the St. Anthony Italian Family Feast at the Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park his juvenile son was involved in an altercation with (2) adults and (2) other juveniles the night before (Article Link). He stated that he believed that his older son, Nelson Delgado, may have been looking for the males in an attempt to retaliate. One (1) of these males resides in the Sunrise Village Apartments. When confronted with this information, Nelson Delgado admitted that he was at the Sunrise Village apartments looking for the male in hopes of confronting him. Nelson was later released pending a Superior Court date of June 24, 2011.
