Brenda Calinawan Exhibit At Casano Art Gallery

“State by State: A Personal Journey Through the United States”, the latest solo exhibit of photography by Roselle Park resident Brenda Calinawan is currently showing through April 20, 2012. There will be a reception to meet the artist from 6:30p.m. – 8 p.m. on Monday, March 26th.

The 14 photographs in this exhibit depict Brenda Calinawan’s travels throughout the United States, focusing on the nature and landscapes of the states she visited.

Six years ago while traveling with friends, she became the group’s photographer, documenting their travels. The trips inspired her to take up photography and three years ago she started to seriously take photographs with her own digital camera.

“As an Occupational Therapist visiting new places and taking photographs is my way to take a break from a very stressful job,” Brenda states.

The concept for this photographic series came from a person who had mentioned that he had visited 40 states, so Calinawan thought she’d do the same thing because she loves traveling. Brenda’s personal plan is to visit the 50 states before she reaches 40, and at 37, she has already visited approximately 30 states.

Serious about her hobby, she is taking courses through the New York Institute of Photography’s Distance Learning program. Calinawan exhibited her photographs of Roselle Park, NJ in the Casano Community Center Art Gallery’s “Winter in Roselle Park” group exhibit last year.

Brenda says, “With this exhibit, I want to share the photographs of the beautiful places that I have visited in this spectacular country.”
