Brake Light Violation Results In CDS Cocaine Arrest

On November 13, 2011 at approximately 9:18 p.m. in the area of East Westfield Avenue and Chestnut Street, Patrolman Robert Sobocinski observed a black Honda Civic with a brake light out in violation of 39:3-66. A check of the license plate revealed the registered owner to have an active warrant in the amount of $131.00 out of Sayreville, NJ.

A motor vehicle stop resulted in the discovery of a plastic bag containing suspected cocaine. The driver, Dennis Hernandez, age 23 of Elizabeth, was placed under arrest and charged with 2C:35-10(a)(1) (possession of cocaine), 2C:36-2 (drug paraphernalia), 39:3-66 (maintenance of lamps), 39:6b-2 (no insurance), and 39:4-49.1 (CDS in a motor vehicle).

Mr. Hernandez posted full cash bail on the Sayreville warrant in the amount of $131.00. He was then released pending his Superior Court date of November 21, 2011.
