BOE Appoints Sherman & Robert Gordon School Principals

The Roselle Park Board Of Education (BOE) unanimously appointed Tara Lechner as the principal of Sherman Elementary School and Hipolita ‘Paula’ Hernandez-Sicignano as the principal of Robert Gordon Elementary School.

The two ‘hand-carried’ resolutions were added to the agenda and voted on at the end of the meeting.

Mrs. Lechner has been a teaching in Roselle Park for close to two decades and currently teaches at Sherman School. Mrs. Sicignano has more than 15 years of classroom experience as an elementary teacher and holds an educational doctorate in Educational Leadership. She has been with the Roselle Park School District since January of 2015 and is currently the school district’s director of the pre-school program as well as the supervisor of the ESL/Bilingual programs having previously served as the director of the Early Childhood Center.

Mrs. Lechner remarked, “I’m just looking forward to continuing the wonderful tradition of high expectations in education, academics, and behavior at Sherman School and I just feel very honored to transition from teacher to principal at Sherman School and I’m very excited about next year.

Mrs. Sicignano commented, “My career has been all about the children so I’m really excited to be the new instructional leader. I’m looking forward to working with everybody, working as a team, [and] working with Tara especially. I’m really excited.”

Both appointees will become principals effective September 1, 2018, each with an annual salary of $104,130.
