Bike Path Closed Due To Safety Concerns

The Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) this morning has closed the bike path next to the NJ TRANSIT Roselle Park train station tracks between Galloping Hill Road and Chestnut Street.

Safety concerns have arisen with railroad ties that were placed sometime yesterday after 2 p.m. on the sloping railroad bed next to the walkway. There have been reports of some of those railroad ties tumbling down the embankment and onto the bike path.

Conrail has been notified and will be securing the ties.

The train track in the borough has one embankment – the side where the bike path is located – belonging to Conrail and the other – on the other side of the train station – belonging to NJ TRANSIT.

Early this morning a resident noticed the ties on the walkway and notified the municipality.

Once the area is secure, the path will be open once again to the public.
