Bender Ave Traffic Violation Stop Recults In Marijuana Possession Arrest

On April 24, 2012, Patrolman Nicholas Vaughan stopped a 2003 Nissan Altima for traffic violations on Bender Avenue at approximately 3 p.m. During the roadside investigation, Patrolman Vaughan reported that he detected the odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed one (1) bag of suspected marijuana in the passenger compartment. Further search by the Union County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit resulted in a positive alert for narcotics. The vehicle was then secured and transported to RPPD for further investigation. The driver, Allen D. Wells, a 33-year-old resident of Newark, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. Wells was later released into custody of the Elizabeth Police Department on active warrants totaling $1,497.
