A middle-aged male along with a female was parked curbside on Chestnut Street at Westfield Avenue in their 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee waiting for their niece to get out of a party at around 11:30 p.m. last night. A black male with dark clothes, a hoodie, and a face mask opened the vehicle door brandishing a handgun and demanded all personal items. He then demanded that the occupants exit the car as he drove off.

Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) Patrolman Brian Swick pulled up at that time and initiated a pursuit that went into Roselle. Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) lost the vehicle near Second Avenue at Linden Road.

Moments later, Roselle Police had reported that the suspect vehicle crashed into two parked cars at First Avenue at Poplar Street. The suspect fled into Roselle Park behind Pump It Up located at 158 East Westfield Avenue. A K-9 unit was dispatched and attempted to track the suspect to no avail.

Evidence located at the scene included the gun used. The Union County Sheriff’s ID Department assisted in evidence recovery.

The suspect is still at large. No one was reported injured and no damage was caused to any patrol units.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is requested to call the Roselle Park Police Department at (908) 245-2300.
