Accident On Westfield & Locust Ends In DWI Arrest

On April 24, 2011 9:53 p.m., Patrolman Wartovinick Adamski responded to the area of West Westfield Avenue and Locust Street on a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, Patrolman Adamski found a vehicle with Angel B. Palacio-Ojeda, age 34 of Cranford, in the front driver seat of the vehicle trying to drive the vehicle away. Mr. Palacio-Ojeda displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol. An investigation resulted in the arrest of Palacio-Ojeda for suspicion of DWI.

Several feet ahead of the first vehicle the second vehicle involved in the crash that had three (3) occupants in it; one of which was a juvenile who was complaining of a head and neck injury. The child was transported to Overlook Hospital for treatment.

Witnesses stated Palacio-Ojeda’s vehicle struck a vehicle that was stopped at the red traffic signal on the left turn stacking lane.

Mr. Palacio-Ojeda also had an outstanding contempt of court warrant for $165.00 from Metuchen Municipal Court.

Mr. Palacio-Ojeda was charged with 2C:12-1(c)(2) (Assault by Auto); 39:4-50 (DWI); 39:4-50(g) (DWI in a School Zone); 39:4-97 (Careless Driving); and 39:3-40 (Driving While Suspended).

He was released pending a Union County Superior Court date of April 27, 2011.
