Accident On Grant & Walnut Ends In DWI Arrest

On Saturday, March 10th, at around 10:25 a.m., Roselle Park Police responded to East Grant Avenue at Walnut Street on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving two motor vehicles where witnesses at the scene were reporting possible injuries and entrapment.

Once on-scene, officers discovered a blue 2012 Toyota RAV4 in the middle of the roadway with heavy front-end damage that had flipped onto its roof. Witnesses stated that the vehicle was traveling westbound on East Grant Avenue when it veered to the right of the roadway striking a legally parked 2012 Chevy causing the Toyota to flip over before coming to rest on its roof.

The driver of the vehicle, Jessica L. Burgos, age 35 from Roselle Park – who was still in the driver’s seat – had to be extricated from the vehicle by Union County EMS, Roselle Park Fire Department (RPFD), and Roselle Park Police. The two passengers in the vehicle who were assisted from the vehicle by a witness included a seven-year-old and nine-year-old who were reported to be uninjured.

Ms. Burgos was arrested and later charged with driving while intoxicated with two minors in the vehicle – a disorderly persons offense – and endangering the welfare of a child in the fourth degree. She was also issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and careless driving.

Ms. Burgos was transported to University Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and later released.
