For the second time in one week, the Roselle Park School District (RPSD) has decided to have schools closed today, February 5, 2014, due to snow and icy conditions. This marks the fourth snow day – the previous days being January 3, January 22, and February 3 – used by the district.
RPSD includes three built-in days into the school calendar as a buffer in case schools close due to weather. This year, those days were used within the first five weeks of the year and any additional days when schools are closed – starting with today – will impact days off and, perhaps, affect the last day of school. The 2013-2014 school calendar states that the following days, which were originally scheduled to be days when the Roselle Park schools are closed, will become days when school will be in session, in the following order:
- April 21, 2014 (Monday)
- April 14, 2014 (Monday)
- April 15, 2014 (Tuesday)
- April 16, 2014 (Wednesday)
- April 17, 2014 (Thursday)
Those proposed days, starting with April 14th, will affect Passover. April 18th is Good Friday.
There is news of an upcoming snowstorm this weekend which, again, might affect the school district.
