Shannon Kelly (center) and Eileen Kelly, both from Roselle Park – along with teammate and fiancé Scott Oliveira from Kearny – paid tribute and honored the memory of David Kornas at NJ Sharing Network’s 4th Annual 5K Walk and USATF (USA Track & Field) Certified Race on June 8th in New Providence.
The three were part of “Team Dave – Always in Our Hearts,”. David’s corneas were donated after he passed away in 2012 after sustaining injuries resulting from an industrial accident, giving the gift of sight to others.
Nearly 9,000 people, all touched in some way by organ and tissue donation, walked or ran in the June 8th event to help raise awareness and funds for organ donation.
This year’s 5K has already raised $700,000 and fundraising for the 5K continues until July 15th. Financial contributions to the 5K Walk/Race are still being accepted by visiting NJ Sharing Network’s contribution page (link).
