At 1:49 a.m., Santiago Giraldo, 19 of Plainfield, was arrested by Patrolman Brian Swick during a traffic stop. Giraldo was found in possession of a bag of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
September 14, 2013
At 12:42 a.m., Veronica Polanco, 20 of Linden, was arrested by Patrolman Alexander Lanza during a traffic stop. Polanco reportedly offered two aliases – Veronica Acosta and Jocelyn Polanco – as her legal name before admitting she lied to hinder her apprehension on a $482 Linden warrant. Polanco was charged with traffic offenses as well as Hindering Apprehension. She was released after posting bail.
Hillside Police reported that a vehicle registered to a Roselle Park resident was found abandoned at a crash scene. The vehicle – a 2000 Chrysler minivan – was observed to have damage to the steering column indicating that it may have been stolen. Police located the owner of the van who then reported the van stolen from west Clay Avenue between 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday night. An investigation is underway by Detective Assad of the RPPD.

Roselle Park Police responded to an activated alarm at a commercial property on West Westfield Avenue. Police discovered an open window with a torn screen on the first floor. A K-9 unit was summoned from the Union County Sheriff’s Department to assist in the building search. A search of the building revealed no suspects. A burglary investigation is being conducted by Roselle Park Detective Harms.
