A shihan is a master teacher in Aikido and is a high ranking sensei.

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba in 1926 that derived techniques from Jujitsu and Kenjutsu. Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them away from you, placing emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement.
