At 10:23 a.m. today, a witness called the Roselle Park Police Department (RPPD) to report that the marquee awning at the New Park Cinema located at 23 West Westfield Avenue was struck by a Budget rental box truck, causing structural damage.

The vehicle immediately fled the scene westward on Westfield Avenue before police arrived.

The New Park Cinema is currently in the preliminary stages of being renovated as Park Theatre after being closed in 2010.

No injuries were reported but the area underneath the marquee on the sidewalk and street in front of the theatre are currently cordoned off with barricades for any potential issues with safety.

The incident is under investigation and anyone with information should contact the RPPD Traffic Unit at (908) 245-2300.
