On Sunday, May 4th, at approximately 1:02 in the morning, Sergeant Wielgus and Patrolman Fitzgerald attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on a 2006 BMW and a 2002 Ford pickup that was pulling a large landscape trailer for a moving violation.
Both vehicles failed to stop and led police on a chase through Roselle Park into Elizabeth.
The driver of the BMW tried to force the police vehicles off the road several times during the pursuit. It was learned that the pickup and trailer were stolen from Market Street in Kenilworth approximately ten minutes prior to the pursuit.
The owner of the trailer stated to have approximately $40,000 worth of commercial grade landscape equipment stored inside. Both Roselle Park and Kenilworth Police are working the case and the investigation is continuing.
